Pawena was born in the countryside of Thailand surrounded by nature. Her usual day when not in school was playing with the materials she found in nature around her: wooden sticks, clay and mud.  Pawena began her career studying Industrial Design with a major in Ceramics at KMITL in Bangkok, Thailand. She then moved to the United States and completed an additional undergraduate degree in Graphic Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Since graduating, Pawena worked full time in the design industry for 15 years and made sure to find time to make things by hand outside of work to keep her love for art and crafts alive. When given the opportunity to pursue her love for the arts she founded Pawena Studio in 2015. Pawena lives and works in Los Angeles with her husband, also a graphic designer, and her two boys.

This piece is from Pawena's ETA34 collection, YOSO COLLECTION. In Pawena's own words: "My work is explorative and led by instinct. Spontaneous ideas play in my head — this is where my process begins. From sketches to clay to wheel to hand built techniques, my ceramic work transforms into a blend of organic and geometric shapes. The results lead to graphic and modernistic pottery both in shape and form. Clay allows me to experiment with various textures and colors that speak to who I am, from simple, pure forms to more expressive graphic patterns. This YOSO collection contains the total of 8 hand thrown and hand-painted ceramic vases. Made by stoneware clay body and fired in a gas kiln at cone 10."
